Stage set for the NIC CUP ( The T20 Challenge) 2016 Finals.

After three months of amazing cricket, the stage is set for the final of the NIC Bank Sponsored NIC CUP 2016 ( The T20 Challenge) cricket tournament. Last year Champions Mombasa Sports Club bats it off with Coast Gymkhana Sports Club in the final at the former’s wicket on May 22 at 1:30 PM.

The two teams made it to the final after winning their qualifier matches to set their eyes to the final. Mombasa Sports Club defeated Coast Gymkhana in the first qualifier while Coast Gymkhana latter recovered to dismiss Jaffery Sports Club in the second qualifier to reach to Final.

In the first qualifier match at Mombasa Sports Club, the home team defeated Coast Gymkhana by 51 runs after setting a target of 120/10 where the latter managed to hit 69/10. Praveen Mogasati was the top scorer for Mombasa Sports with 23 runs while Sagar Karia and Taaha Sulemanji tied on 19 runs each. Coast Gymkhana’s bowlers Kshitij Patel had 3/12 while Shaishav Patel and Luv Manek had 1/25 and 2/19 respectively.

Chasing a target of 121 runs in 20 over, Coast Gymkhana failed to tick with Shreyash Desale and Adrash Sawjani managing 18 and 17 runs respectively. Mombasa Sports bowlers Dev Hirani who was the man-of-the-match and Taaha Sulemanji bagged 4/10 and 2/6 respectively.

In the second Qualifier, Coast Gymkhana gave no room for defeat and went ahead to knock out Jaffery Sports Club by 39 runs after choosing to bat first. The winners had a target of 206 in 20 over for Jaffery to reach, which they failed. Adrash Sawjani bagged 91 runs before he was caught by former national skipper Steve Tikolo. Sanjay Patel who is the Chairman of the Coast Cricket Association retired after scoring 41 runs.

Jaffery bowlers Zuher Ladak and Tikolo (Steve) had 2/29 and 1/31 respectively. Chasing the target, Tikolo hit the century with a score of 112 runs before he was caught by Siddath Taneja after Kshitij Patel’s superb bowling. Ali karim had 14 runs before caught by Shreyash Desale off Rakep Patel’s bowling. Coast Gymkhana’s bowlers were outstanding with Kshitji Patel and Shalshav Patel hitting 4/24 and 2/36 respectively. Kshitij Patel was the man-of-the-match.
