Mombasa Simba and Cutchi Leva cause upset in NIC T20 2016

Mombasa Simba caused the first upset last weekend in the on-going NIC T20 tournament as Mombasa Burhani won the toss and opted to bat banking on Kenyan Cap Collins Omondi and versatile Yusuf Bakirali. However, Bakirali (25) fell to Pyara Singh (1/25) as Sunny Palla (3/12) cleaned the Burhani top order including Collins who were 59/6 before Yusuf Hussein (28)* took his side to 104/6 in 20 overs. In reply, Satpal Singh Gatora (42) set the stage for a Simba upset although Collins Omondi 4/26 tried to slow the batsmen which took the game to the very last ball of the last over.

Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj won the toss and elected to field against Mombasa Sports Club restricting Sports Club to 132/5 with Sagar Karia (54) and Bhavya Thakkar (35) firing away against the famous Samaj bowling attack. Akshay Bhanderi (2/18) most effective against the Sports Club batsmen. In reply, Pritesh Hirani (31) and Dhiren Gondharia (21) set the stage for the rest of the team to reach the target in 17.4 overs. Puru Sharma (2/14) the only effective bowler as Shree Cutchi Leva Patel beat Sports Club convincingly.

Mombasa Heats must have regretted their decision to field against Coast Gymkhana as NavinKumar Sharma (115) and Adarsh Sawjani (81) took on the Heats bowlers to set the stage for a 251 run target in their allotted 20 overs. Geoffrey Evans (2/51) the only effective bowler slowing down the scoring rate. In reply, Mombasa Heats were nine down for 104 at the end of their 20 overs with each of the Gymkhana bowlers picking wickets to secure victory and the top slot on the table.

In the fourth game of the week, Mombasa Jaffery won the toss and opted to field as Memon Sports Club Luqman Bachlani (43) and Ebrahim Bachani (19) battled against GulamAbbas Kassam (2/14) and Regan Ochola (0/18). Memon posting 120/8 in their 20 overs. In reply, Kenya Cap Irfan Karim knocked (95)* not out to take Mombasa Jaffery to a 9 wicket victory in 12 overs.

The coming weekend should see some HEATED action as NIC T20 title defenders Sports Club take on League table leaders Coast Gymkhana, Mombasa Jaffery face of Burhani, Heats try to burn Memon and Shree Cutchi Leva take on Simba who are on the prowl.
