NIC BANK sponsored NIC Cup 2015 reached to playoff games this weekend with 2 games on Sunday. An Eliminator game was played between Burhani Sports Club (Finished No 3 in group stage) and Jaffery Sports Club (Finished No 4 in Group Stage) in Morning session while Qualifier 1 was played between Coast Gymkhana (Finished no 1 in group stage) and Mombasa Sports Club (Finished no 2 in Group Stage)
In Eliminator game Jaffery Sports Club ( Mombasa) trounced youthful Burhani Sports Club to secure their spot in Qualifier 2 by winning the eliminator game by 9 wickets. Winning the toss Mombasa Jaffery elected to field first in a cloudy condition of Mombasa. An All rounder performance by National Coach Steve Tikolo and youngster Regan restricted the Burhani to 82 all out with 9 deliveries spares. Only Taaha Firoz (26) and Yusuf Hueein (10) contended well against the ferocious Steve Tikolo ( 4/9) and Zuher Ladak ( 2/18) with some marvelous catches by Steve and Regan. Mombasa Jaffery managed the target in 12th over with the help of Moh’d Fazal ( 36) and Steve Tikolo ( 32), only Experienced Burhani player Yusuf Hussein manage to get a wicket.
In Qualifier 2 game Coast Gymkhana was shocked by their 1st lost in this tournament by well prepared Mombasa Sports Club. Batting first under the watchful Eyes of Vipul Patel and Hemant Desai, Gymkhana top order fails to make a strong start as Gymkhana was down to 4 wickets in 3rd Over due to some discipline bowling by Youngster Dev Hirani ( 3/13) when Gymkhana veterans Sanjay Patel (25) and Mahesh Kerai 54) came to rescue the team and take gymkhana to 92/8 in 20 overs. Mombasa Sports Club opener Nilay Thakar and Yusuf Bakir lost their wickets early to a Youngster Haraj Sohal ( 2/11) but experienced Sagar Karia ( 51) took a charge and lead his team to a Final by winning the qualifier 1 by 6 wickets in 16th Over
Plenty of action this weekend as Gymkhana will try again to conquer the NIC T20 final when they play a Qualifier 2 against Jaffery Sports Club on Saturday afternoon Game and Mombasa Sports Club will play a Final against the winner of Qualifier 2Back to News
