NIC T20 heats up as Burhani knock down Mombasa Sports Club and Jaffery beat new comer Memon.....

The prestigious NIC T20 cup enters its 5th week after the easter weekend break with coast champions Mombasa Sports Club being chased hard by rejuvenated Mombasa Jaffery as well as power house Burhani Sports Club and tough contenders Shree Cutchi Leva Patel. not to be left out of the melee, Coast Gymkhana is also looking good on both the T20 and Pro40 tables, leading the Pro40 table on points.

The last weekend of March saw Mombasa Simba B struggle against a determined Shree Cutchi Leva. Simba batting first could only manage 93 runs in just under 40 overs as 26 extras and Jasmer Singh Marwa (18) scored the bulk runs. Paresh Bhudia (3/8) devastating as usual with Akshay Bhanderi (2/12) put the brakes on the visiting side. In reply, Bipin Bhudia’s quick fire 46 saw S.C.L.P.S reach the target in 12 overs with Satinder Singh Aithan (2/31) causing ripples for the batsmen.

The NIC T20 as usual saw 3 interesting matches as Burhani Sports Club flexed their muscle against Mombasa Sports Club and caused an upset to the best laid plans. Batting first, Taaha Suleimanji blazed 34 runs with Sagar Karia chipping in 18 to take the scores to 102 for 9 in their 20. Hussein Mukarram (2/8) and Talha Khan (2/12) slowing the Sports line-up. In response, Taha Firoz Yusufali (40)* and Murtaza Bakirali (22) set the stage to upset the Coast giants Burhani making the score with balls to spare. Bhavya Thakkar’s (4/13) not enough to give Sports Club an edge over the Burhani Lions.

In the second game of the weekend, some hard hitting from both Shree Cutchi Leva Patel and Mombasa Simba made for an exciting game with some of the highest scores of the tournament being recorded. Batting first, SCLPS’s Bipin Bhudia (58) and Raju Narsi (49) let loose from the word go to post an impressive 164/7 in their 20. Dhruv Shukla (2/27) and Amir Hamza (2/25) valiantly trying to keep the scores down. In reply, Amir Hamza (76)* tried single handed to win the game for Simba, however, good fielding and tight bowling prevented a Simba upset, Simba falling 24 runs short of the required target.

In the third match of the NIC T20 tournament, Mombasa Jaffery had an easy ride against newcomers Memon Sports Club as Kenya Cap Nehemiah Odhiambo (40), Abbasali Mawji (47) and Mohammed Fazel (32) set the pace at the top to close their innings at 156/7 in the allotted overs. Luqman Noorani (2/40) trying to salvage some pride for the Memon Sports Club. In reply, three run outs, GulamAbbas Kassam’s (2/20) and Mujtaba Walji’s (2/13) restricted Memon Sports Club to a classic test 63/9 in their 20 overs. Mombasa Simba and Memon yet to win a game as Sports Club and Mombasa Jaffery tie on points at the top of the table.

This weekend, Burhani Sports Club face Mombasa Simba on Saturday as Coast Gymkhana look forward to a thrilling encounter with Shree Cutchi Leva on Sunday morning as Sunday afternoon gives Simba and Memons to win their first game of the NIC T20.
