Coast Gymkhana youngsters trounce Cutchi Leva to lead 40 over league table..

Coast Gymkhana’s youngsters came to the forefront last Sunday to set a defendable 177 target against superb bowling from Shree Cutchi Leva patel at the Coast gymkhana grounds. Put in to bat, Kamal Gohill (31) and Adrash Sawjani (37) battled away against the stiff bowling of Paresh Bhudhia (2/46) and Akshay Bhanderi (2/27) in the allotted 40 overs. In reply, Paresh Bhudia’s (44) steadied the floundering Cutchi Leva ship from 34/3 to 66/3 before he succumbed to young Harajsingh Sohal whose 3/22 and Luv Manek’s 4/19 destroyed the middle and tail end ending the Cutchi innings for 97 runs in 22.2 overs. This win taking Coast Gymkhana to the top of the table ahead of Mombasa Sports Club and Mombasa Jaffery both with one game in hand in comparison.

Title defenders Mombasa Sports Club were pitted against Mombasa Simba A at the Simba grounds in Nyali. Batting first, Sports Club gained 41 runs for free in extras with Dev Hirani (39) and ZahirAbbas Khakhu (28) the other note worthy contributors to a total of 197 in 34.5 overs. The commendable Bowling of Harkrishan Singh (3/44) and Gurjeet Singh (3/38) attributing to the loss of all wickets by Sports Club. In reply, Simba tottered on 26/5 before Nimesh Panchal (41) and Santosh Kumar (24) steadied the innings to end 87 short of the target in 25 overs. What could have been a thrilling upset was nipped in the bud by Vishal Shikotra (2/20), Thabit Muhammad (2/17) and ZahirAbbas Khaku (3/41). Mombasa Sports Club continue in the running for the top spot on the table.

Third placed Mombasa Jaffery also in contention for the top slot having fought from the bottom of the table rose high against worthwhile adversaries Burhani Sports Club at the Burhani grounds in the 3rd match of the day. Batting first, Burhani sports Club took off to 141/3 with a healthy contribution of 68* not out from Yusuf Hussein and 42 from Taha Firoz against National Side bowlers Morris Ouma (2/30), Steve Tikolo (3/26) and GulamAbbas Kassam (2/29). However, with a steady fall of wickets at the other end, Yusuf Hussein could only take Burhani to 188 for 8 in the 40 overs. In reply, Morris Ouma (64) and Mohammed Fazal (80) took Mombasa Jaffery to a comfortable 8 wicket victory in 28 overs.

With the ICC world cup looming large on the horizon, our local boys also displaying an array of brilliance overshadowed by the lack of local support from the cricketing fraternity.
