MOMBASA SPORTS CLUB TRIUMPH OVER CUTCHI LEVA BOWLERS AS GYMKHANA VETERANS SECURED ANOTHER WIN.
Mombasa Sports Club won the toss and opted to bat in order to push the strong Shree Cutchi Leva bowling attack against the wall. After a blistering start to their bowling spell with scores at 70 for 4, Sagar Karia (88) and Mohit Dhutia (42) took the attack to Cutchi Leva ending the sports club tally at a whooping 220 for 9 in their 40 overs. Paresh Bhudia’s 3/45, Akshay Shamji (2/42) and Bipin Bhudia (2/51) putting a dent on the Sports Club batting. In reply, Paresh Bhudia (30) and Bipin Bhudia (18) were the only ones to stand firm as SCLPS collapsed against the disciplined bowling of Dev Hirani (3/14) and Vishal Shikotra (3/18) to end at 84 all out with 17 overs to spare. Sports Club moving up to second position with one game in hand against table leaders Mombasa Heats.
Tim Jenz and his boys had a reasonably easy ride against Mombasa Simba B when Simba B opted to bat first at the Gymkhana grounds. Jasmer Singh Marwa (28) and 30 extras took the score to 75 all out in 28 overs as Peter Minns harvested 5 for 20 to bring Simba down. In reply Jeremy Fernandes (21) and Padma Kumara (16) took the home side to victory in 22 overs with Jasmer Singh again being the main antagonist with 2/15. The score however not enough for the Simba boys to defend. Heats maintain pole position 2 points ahead of Sports Club.
Sanjay Patel of Coast gymkhana playing the season of his lifetime took Gymkhana to an impressive victory against Simba A at the Nyali grounds where the hosts, opted to bat first and managed a decent score of 174 in 38.4 overs. Gurjeet singh’s 26 not being enough to secure a safe score for Simba. Kshitij Patel (2/33) and Shreyash Desale (2/23) restricting the hosts nicely. In reply, Sanjay Patel’s blistering 68 and Kamal Gohil’s stylish 58 took the visitors to victory in 25.1 overs for the loss of 2 wickets, pushing Gymkhana towards the top of the leadership board and opening this league as one of the most competitive in recent years.
The fourth game of the weekend saw a very lack lustre performance from the once powerhouse of cricket at the coast. Mombasa Jaffery hosted by Burhani Sports club were put into bat with scores expected to soar into the 200’s. However, at 56/5 with five batsmen scoring ducks, Mombasa Jaffery were floundering save for the graceful 45 of Mohamed Fazal and Regan Ochela (25) took the side to 132 all out in 35.4 overs. Mustansir Akberali (3/29) and Hussein Mukarram (2/9) made easy work of the poor shot selection by the Jaffery players. In reply, Idris Firoz Yusufali (42) and Taha Firoz (24) laid into the Jaffery Bowling attack achieving victory against the visitors within 27 overs of play for the loss of 6 wickets. Mujahid Kalyan (2/19) and Ali Karim (2/20) salvaging some pride for the Jaffery Club. Sitting second from the bottom, Mombasa Jaffery needs to win and win big in the coming games to save face and recover its position on the leadership board against sides like Burhani, Simba B, coast Gymkhana before it can consider its former position at the top four.
