GAME 1 - Mombasa Sports Club started their title defense of the 30 over tournament in style by a convincing win over Simba Union on Sunday 31st August, on Coast Gymkhana.

A perfect day for cricket saw MSC lose the toss and put in to bat. Disciplined bowling attack by the opening bowlers Jasmeet Bhuller 0/30 and Hamza 3/41 reaped reward as MSC struggled in the opening spells losing wickets at regular intervals . Also contributing was newcomer Gurjeet 1/30 and Harmeet Singh 1/27. However, vital contributions by Mohit Dhutia 30, Capt Zahirabbas Khaku 29 and Sagar Karia 26 saw MSC to a defendable total of 187/8.

Simba Union innings never got a chance to take off as MSC bowling attack tore through the batting line up mercilessly. Only Hamza 18 and Harshil Parekh 17 managed to cross double figures as Simba were eventually bundled all out for 77 in the 21st over, losing the match by 110 runs. It was labeled a Captains day as Zahirabbas Khaku added to his batting performance with bowling figures, which included the season’s first hat-trick, 4/16 and two sharp catches in slips. He was well supported by his opening partner Thabith Mohamed 2/2 in 4 overs.

GAME 2 - Elsewhere, Memon Sports Club was given a harsh welcome back into Coast cricket by Burhani Sports Club at Burhani SC ground.

After winning the toss BSC captain elected to bat first. What looked like a promising start from the opening pair; Ammar T. 12 and Idris Feroz 38 fell short as Ammar departed early. A near Century from Talha Khan saw him blast a punishing 99 as he was supported by Yusuf Hussein who bagged his half century 52 not out. Burhani finished with a massive total of 260/3 in 30 overs. Memon’s bowling attack were truly taken to task with only Adam Kadernani 2/55 and Ahmed Osman 1/45 picking up wickets.

Memon SC were not up to the task of chasing a mammoth score of 260 runs, they lost wickets early and at regular intervals. Yusuf Hussein 6/18 and Mustafa Chandbhai 3/15 showed no mercy to the new comers who eventually were all out for a score of 43runs in 13 overs.
