Mombasa Sports Club scrap through to Finals as Burhani secure Qualifier 2 place in thrilling weekend encounter.

It was a nail biting finish in the last over for Mombasa Sports Club against Coast Gymkhana in the Zahra Cup T20 tournament last Sunday at the Burhani grounds to secure their third finals slot as Burhani Sports Club upset Mombasa Jaffery to secure a place in the second semi against Coast Gymkhana.

Batting first on a blistering hot Sunday, Coast Gymkhana posted a modest 138 for 5 in their 20 overs with Harshil Gohil (42*) and Adarsh Sawjani (30)* giving their side a defendable target against the strong Sports Club bowling unit with Dev Hirani and ZahirAbbas Khaku doing the most damage with 2 wickets apiece. In reply, Kshitij Patel struck early blows to reduce Sports Club to 53 for 3 before ZahirAbbas (41) and Taaha Suleimanji (21)* took their side home in the penultimate over with 2 deliveries to spare. The fight by Coast Gymkhana sets the stage for the second semi final between coast Gymkhana and Burhani Sports Club who have both shown serious intent on securing the T20 cup. - Full Scorecard

In the second match of the day, a lack luster Mombasa Jaffery won the toss and took to the crease to post 136 for 9 in their allotted overs. Mohamed Fazal (28), Juma Abbas (31) and Ahmed Virjee (20)* batted valiantly, as the rest of the team folded losing wickets to forced errors and poor batting form. In reply, Burhani Sports Club also won their match in the final over riding on the batting strength of Ammar Taibali (40), Taha Firoz (27) and Yusuf Vejlani (21)* as Ahmed Virjee, MohamedRaza Tejani and AliJawad Karim picked 2 wickets apiece to slow the batting side down. - Full Scorecard

This coming weekend sees the two determined sides of the tournament, Coast Gymkhana and Burhani face each other to determine who takes on Mombasa Sports Club in the final on the same day at Burhani Sports Grounds in what promises to be an epic climax to the dedicated comeback of both former giants in the coast cricket history. With the elimination of stronger sides such as Mombasa Jaffery and Shree Cutchi Leva Patel, Sports Club may well have a challenge at hand as both Gymkhana and Burhani gear up to upset one more giant to the race to the finish.
