Jaffery secure second place as Mombasa Sports Club suffer first defeat....

Mombasa Jaffery Sports Club secured their 2nd place in the CCA 40 league as they defeated unbeaten Mombasa Sports Club by 162 runs at the Burhani grounds after over three years of losing to the coast cricket giants.

Winning the toss and opting to bat, Mujtaba Walji (63) laid into the Mombasa Sports Club bowlers with half a dozen towering sixes as the leading cricketing side at the coast struggled to cover all angles of the field, playing with only 9 players. Mohamed Fazal (45), Juma Abbas (62), MohamedRaza Tejani (31) and Mazhar Kassamali (26) placed the ball freely all around the wicket aided by 48 extras conceded by sloppy bowling which saw the Mombasa Jaffery total top 300 ending at 313/9 in 40 overs. Mohit Dhutia (2/43) and Bhavya Thakkar (2/35) stemming the tide of runs towards the end by taking wickets as the tail was exposed.

In reply, Mombasa Sports Club found themselves at 79 for 7 before opening batsman Vishal Shikotra (43) and Mohamed Al Hirazi (46*) took the team to 151, posting 72 runs for the last wicket. MohamedReza Tejani (2/47), Juma Abbas (3/23) and AliJawad Karim (2/20) responsible for the destruction of the sports club batting line-up. Juma Abbas once again the man of the match securing his place at the top of the bowlers table and taking second place on the batting table.

In reply, Ammar Taibali (44) and Yusuf Hussein (35) batted brilliantly for the 2nd wicket as Burhani S.C. looked set to take the game before Harmeet Singh Bawra (3/25) and Dhruv Shukla (4/14) struck to end the Burhani chase on 132 in 29 overs. Burhani continue to struggle on the points table as Mombasa Simba fight for fourth place against Coast Gymkhana in the remaining games.

At Coast Gymkhana grounds, Mombasa Simba also secured a win against unpredictable Burhani Sports Club. Batting first, Simba posted a meagre 140 in 36 overs with Randeep Birdi (22), Amit Kumar (21) and Jasmeer Singh Marwa (20) being the main run scorers. Excellent bowling by Mustansir Akberali (2/34), Murtaza Zafferali (2/21) and Ammar Taibali (2/17) kept the scores on par.

This coming weekend, Coast Gymkhana take on Jaffery at home where both will do their best to out-do the other in a battle of points and final standing on the bowling and batting charts. Join us as the two face of in what is Mombasa Jaffery’s final game of this interesting 40 over tourney.
