YOUNGSTERS SHOWCASE THEIR SKILLS ON DIWALI WEEKEND.
This diwali weekend, it was Mombasa Simba versus Mombasa Jaffery at the Coast Gymkhana ground where, having won the toss, The lions put Jaffery in to bat. Captain Randeep Birdi started the day on a high note taking an early wicket together with the unfortunate run out of Mujtaba Walji that saw Jafferys at 21/2 in the first five overs of the game. As Juma Abbas and Aliasgher Abdallah lost their wickets early, it were the youngsters Mohamed Kalyan (56) and Ali Karim (47*) who stepped up to the plate and took charge of the game as Mombasa Jaffery managed to post 217 for 9 in their allotted overs.
Randeep Birdi (2/44), Pyara Singh (2/35) and Amir Hamza (2/37) picked the regular wickets to keep the scores down. In reply, Simba were at 49 for no loss when Dhruv Shukla got run out by a direct throw from Mohamed Kalyan then changed the course of the game. Ali Karim once again came into action with 3/27 which saw Simba bowled out for only 109 runs in 25.3 overs. Satinder Aithan (28), Satpal Ghatora (23) and Dhruv Shukla (22) posting some spirited resistance against the Mombasa Jaffery Duo of Ali Karim and Juma Abbas (3/31).
Mohamed Fazel and Mohamed Kalyan dominate the batting table as Juma Abbas inches to number two on the Bowlers list as Mombasa Jaffery secure 2nd place on the league table. This week sees the two giants, Mombasa Sports Club take on Shree Cutchi Leva Patel Samaj as the fight intensifies for the second and fourth slots as the teams race toward the end of the league.
